Angélus celebrates the 150th anniversary of Société des Bains de Mer

To mark its 150th year, the emblematic Société des Bains de Mer in Monaco is offering an exceptional tasting of 150 Bordeaux fine wines “by the glass” for 150 days.
Château Angélus is amongst the fine wines to be tasted at the 19 restaurants or bars of the Société des Bains de Mer group.  These wines have been brought up from the cellars at the Hôtel de Paris, the group’s luxury hotel.  These cellars were originally hollowed out from the rock in 1874 and now store approximately 350 000 bottles, 98% of which are French wines.  There are 6 500 appellations and 2 000 are from the Bordeaux region.
These cellars belong to the principality’s architectural heritage.  During the Second World War, rare wines were hidden in a rear cellar and Princess Grace used to enjoy holding dinner parties here.

Baptême des cloches

On 24th October, His Eminence Cardinal Ricard, the Archbishop of Bordeaux blessed the bells in the belfry, which now adorns Château Angélus’ façade. These bells form an outstanding campanile including the 700-kilo Angélus no. 3 bell, whose strike tone is G and the 305-kilo Emilion no. 4 bell, whose strike tone is C and a peal of 18 bells. The Angelus bell’s patrons are Jacques and Christian de Boüard de Laforest, while the Emilion bell has Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and Jean-Bernard Grenié as patrons.
