This year, wine professionals were invited to experience Château Angélus 2013, the family properties and the wines of Hubert de Boüard Consulting from 31st March to 4th April at Château Angélus. More than 2,500 people attended and took the opportunity to taste a selection of sixty wines and visit Château Angélus’ new winery.
The 2013 vintage
“Winegrowers are always careful before making definitive claims about the quality of a vintage. Experienced winegrowers know very well that wines very often reveal their qualities progressively. All our hard work and time spent in the vines and in the cellars contribute to bringing out the best of what nature gives us.” (Hubert de Boüard).
After a rainy spring, which triggered poor fruit set and “hens and chicks” (millerandage), July and August were especially hot and dry months, which provided the right conditions for the grapes to develop the basic requirements: the polyphenol structures in the skins and pip ripeness. The grapes were harvested between 28th September and 18th October. This new vintage, which was blended with 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc is characteristically fresh, elegant and fruity and has refined tannins.
