The hallowed cellars that have enabled Château Angélus to reach the summit of excellence have been completely refurbished. With the very precious and competent support of two architects, Arnaud Boulain, who oversaw the works and Jean-Pierre Errath, working for the French authority for listed buildings and as a consultant, the new cellars are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The existing buildings were completely reorganised to echo the image of Château Angélus, highlighting the campanological theme and viticultural tradition in harmony with the values of Saint-Emilion. The outline of the chateau surrounded by its vines lures the observer into the landscape, blending into it, while nevertheless creating a contrast that makes it stand out and exist. All the trade professionals, négociants, brokers, journalists and merchants as well as some celebrities were invited to the unveiling of the new premises on 28th and 29th March just before the primeur tastings began. 300 guests were free to visit the buildings as they enjoyed an aperitif. They then sat down for a meal served in the second-year cellar with contributions from different members of the Directorate and the ceremonial arrival of the wines. During this inaugural evening, a light show was projected onto the facades of the main cellars and the southern pavilion to celebrate and highlight the chateau’s new silhouette.
